The use of Salvia as a legal hallucinogenic drug may soon be curtailed across the US. The state Senate in California is currently examining a bill introduced by Assemblyman Anthony Adams that could see sale of Salvia to minors made illegal. Salvia is currently legal across California and most of the United States.

The long-term effects are currently less well understood and, according to opponents to the bill, the illegalization of the drug could well restrict the ability to perform research.
