Salvia Divinorum
There are a number of naturally occurring plants that, if prepared and used in the correct way, can induce hallucinogenic effects similar to those experienced by users of entirely illegal drugs. These plants are largely legal and are widely available. Salvia Divinorum is the drug leading the charge for these naturally occurring narcotics.
Salvia Divinorum is a member of the Sage family native to Mexico and is the cousin of the popular garden plants Salvia. While little is known about the effects of the drug it is known to induce dreamlike experiences in its users.
Scientists have published early studies stating that Salvia Divinorum – and more specifically its active ingredient Salvinorin A – might be refines and eventually lead to new drugs that can treat effectively diseases like schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s. Although the early studies are promising it is important to note that scientists are still very much in the learning stage with Salvia Divinorum, and any significant advances are some years away.
